Tom Cruise has some key advice for the next wave of actors. As one of the biggest movie stars in the world, he didn’t attend film school or have a technically trained background. Instead, Cruise told the audience on Monday while receiving the British Film Institute Fellowship honor that he learned his skills by watching movies.

Tom Cruise, 62, previously received an honorary Palme d'Or from the festival in 2022, where the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick was marked by a dramatic fighter jet flyover.

The four-time Oscar nominee was in the city as a recipient of the BFI's highest honor, the award of BFI Fellowship. To celebrate the occasion, Cruise took the stage at BFI Southbank for a conversation moderated by DJ and presenter Edith Bowman.
