A federal judge in Vermont on Friday released on bail a Turkish Tufts University student detained in a Louisiana immigration center more than six weeks after she was arrested while walking along a street in a Boston suburb.

The Trump administration must move Tufts University graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk to Vermont from a Louisiana detention center, a federal appeals court ruled. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday upheld a Vermont judge’s order to transfer her to the state where her case is unfolding.

We respectfully request that the court move forward with the bail hearing as originally scheduled,” Monica H. Allard, an attorney for Tufts student Rümeysa Öztürk, said Thursday.
